Sarah Landauer, a 17-year-old track athlete at Eastside (Gainesville, Fla.), died Wednesday, just two days after she collapsed during track and field drills at her school.
Landauer, who was also on the soccer and cross country teams, had recently been cleared to return to practice after losing consciousness Feb. 24 following a 200-meter sprint during a track workout at the University of Florida. An autopsy is pending.
“We follow the Florida High School Athletic Association guidelines regarding athletes who have had medical incidents,” said Alachua County schools spokeswoman Jackie Johnson.
