In last race, Ajee' Wilson comes out first

New Jersey teen wins girls 800m on final day of World Youth Championships

Ajee' Wilson's first global championships experience was somewhat bittersweet.

Last summer, she finished fifth in the 800m at the World Junior Championships in Moncton. Although she ran faster than she had at any point in the season - 2:04.18 - she expected more of herself.

"I remember coming back from the World Juniors where I got fifth, and I was happy with my performance but bummed because I thought I was in shape to run faster and to win a medal," Wilson said. "Coming here this time, I really wanted to get first place."

Wilson got her wish, using patient tactics over the final 300 meters to pull away and win gold in the girls 800m in a personal-best 2:02.64 at the World Youth Championships in Lille, France.
