NHSCA USA SUPER-50 GIRLS TEAM RANKINGS

1. .9820 Birmingham Seaholm HS, Birmingham, MI

-The Michigan super-team dominated the state championships with a superb 18:19 team average for 5000 meters. State Results: Aubrey Wilberding 17:55.9; Tess Wilberding 18:16.4; Marissa Dobry 18:23.9; Rachel Dadamio 18:27.9; Audrey Belf 18:32.8. One of the top three team times ever on the Michigan Speedway course, the others won the national championship. Seaholm is poised to split the title for 2012.

  1. .9820 Fayetteville Manlius HS, Manlius, NY

-The six-time defending national champions have rebounded from the first loss in as many years at Manhattan to position themselves as NXN favorites. While not as dominant as 2010 or 2011 this seasons team is still a formidable opponent. The New York State Champions won with a 18:16 team average for 5000 meters over the Elma Meadows 5000 meter course. State Results: Alana Pearl 18:06.9; Annika Avery 18:12.5; Mary Barger 18:14.1; Jillian Fanning 18:23.8; Katie Brislin 18:25.2.

  3. .9809 Great Oak HS, Temecula, CA

-The top team from California won the Apache Invitational with a 18:08 team 5000 meter average and then dominated the CIF Southern Section Championships defeating US#16 Simi Valley HS, CA 44-69 with a 17-second 1-5 spread. The caviate is a national 3-mile team record 17:02.20 team average! CIF SS Results: Ashley Helbig 16:35; Haley Dorris 16:35; Miranda Kewley 16:39; Christian Calain 16:50; Maiya Larson 16:52.

  4. .9798 Grosse Pointe South HS, Grosse Pointe Farms, MI

-They started the season with the top four runners on one team in US history but the 4-5 gap kept them vulnerable. One of the great programs in prep history finished 2nd at the state championships to US#1 Birmingham Seaholm HS, MI despite running a 18:18 team average over the 5000 meter course. The only teams to perform better had previously won the national championship. The state meet performance was also superior to a dozen other Michigan team who had finished top-10 nationally in the former Harrier National Rankings. The week prior to state had won the Region 8-1 Championships with a 18:08 team average for 5000 meters. State Results: Hannah Meier 17:34.5; Ersula Farrow 18:05.3; Kelsie Schwartz 18:22.9; Haley Meier 18:32.5; Mary Spencer 18:56.8.

  5. .9754 Southlake Carroll HS, Southlake, TX

-How good are the lady Dragons? US#3 all-time 17:49 team average for 5000 meters to win Region I Championships. They then won the UIL State Championships with an 18:11 team average for 5000 meters; if that was not enough Southlake dominated the NXN South Region Championships with another 18:11 team average and 43-second 1-5 spread. The greatest team in South Region history (no joke!) IS the NXN Darkhorse! NXN South Results: Courtney Kriegshauser 17:45.8; Elena Arriaza 18:05.6; Antigone Archer 18:16.1; Shelby Chapin 18:19.6; Katie Burnham 18:29.7.

  6. .9741 Davis HS, Kaysville, UT

-The lady Darts showed up big-time @ NXN Southwest Championships defeating US#10 Fort Collins HS, CO and US#11 Monarch HS, CO with a meet record 18:05 team average for 5000 meters! Thats with Ashley Tyndall running unattached. A huge win for the Corbin Talley program takes them to NXN with aspirations and dreams. NXN SW Results: Shea Martinez 17:34.70; Ellie Child 17:36.70; Taylor Cox 18:21.60; Kenzie Weir 18:27.60; Kami Dixon 18:28.20; Ashley Tyndall Una-18:26.40.

  7. .9688 Carmel HS, Carmel, IN

-Some have said this team is "the" team to beat for the NXN Championships but we are not so sure. While it is clear this team is superior to 2011 US#4 New Trier HS, IL it is also clear that the greayhounds lack a true front runner which spells doom in meets like NXN. At the Trinity/Valkrie Invitational defeated US#8 Assumption with an 18:17 team average for 5000 meters with a 22-second 1-5 spread. Won NXN Midwest Championships with a 22-second 1-5 spread. NXN MW Results: Kelcy Welch 19:02; Gina Genco 19:03; Haley Harris 19:04; Ellen Schmitz 19:16; Samantha Dauby 19:25.
