Dates set but details scarce for House of Track
By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor
Indoor track and field may get a chance at rebirth in Portland when the House of Track opens for a series of meets beginning in mid-January.
The track is located in a Northwest Portland warehouse and is being assembled and tested before it is taken apart and then reassembled at the U.S. Championships (March 11-12) and the IAAF World Indoor Championships (March 17-20) at the Oregon Convention Center.
Details of the meets are still a work in progress, according to TrackTown USA, the organization charged with staging the championship meets.
Dates for the planned indoor track and field meets are: January 15-16, January 22-23, January 29-30 and February 5-6. The meets will be fully sanctioned by the Oregon Association of USA Track & Field and all results will be recorded and reported for NCAA compliance.
It is believed that at least two of the meets will be college events, one hosted by the University of Oregon and another one that involves the University of Portland and Portland State. But again, the details have not been ironed out.
The meets will be held in a large warehouse, unofficially called The House of Track, and there is expected to be at least some high school competition as well.
More details should come on Jan. 5. |
