AT&T Hall of Fame Invitational To Showcase Top East Coast Athletes

New Meet to Recognize Eight Coaching Legends into Armory HOF

NEW YORK, December 16, 2015 –The Armory welcomes a new meet to its notable indoor track & field season on Saturday, December 19 with the AT&T Hall of Fame Invitational. There will be a ceremony within the meet at the New Balance Track & Field Center to induct eight legendary track and field coaches into the Armory Coaches Hall of Fame.

Armory Foundation President, Dr. Norbert Sander writes, "Our traditional holiday meet will pay homage to some of the truly great in our sport. These dedicated coaches make track and field possible and give to their athletes an experience and an education that will last a lifetime."

More than 3,000 high school athletes will represent all five New York boroughs and seven states on the East Coast. Competition includes varsity and sophomore/freshman girls and boys in both large and small high school divisions. The AT&T Hall of Fame Invitational is scheduled to take place from 8:30 a.m.-5:15 p.m.

New York athletes expected to compete include: New Rochelle’s State 55 hurdles champion and 100 hurdles runner-up Victoria Jones-Alleyne; PSAL 3000m Outdoor champion Aaliyah Regg-Wajid of Dewitt Clinton; Bronxville’s Kaitlin Ryan, who was No. 2 and No. 4 in New York last season in the 1000m Indoors and 1500m Outdoors, respectively; and Jahnique Dessaline of Newburgh Free Academy, who was No. 3 last season in the state boys’ 55m. Other local athletes to watch include Jake Johnson (Colonie Central) and Luqman Issah (Pearl River).

Top athletes from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut are entered as well as from Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and Pennsylvania.

The winner of the AT&T Hall of Fame Invitational boys and girls miles will receive an invitation to the NYRR Millrose Games High School miles on February 20, as long as they have eclipsed 4:20/5:00 at some point in their career as of January 24, 2016.

A featured part of the day’s activities will be when coaching legends Joe Biddy (Suffern, NY), Steve Borbet (Bay Shore, NY), Andy Capellan (New Rochelle, NY), Shaun Dietz (Medgar Evers, NY), Mike Glynn (Ridgewood, N.J.), Art Kranick (Saratoga, NY), Linda Kranick (Saratoga, NY), andNicola Martial (Medgar Evers, NY) are inducted into the Armory Coaches Hall of Fame. 

The honored coaches each will receive a glass plaque at 12:30 p.m. on The Armory track’s infield. There will be a Hall of Fame reception at 1 p.m. on the first floor of The Armory.

The new Hall of Fame inductees will join current Hall of Fame members: Ed Bowes (Bishop Loughlin, NY), Bill Carriero (Chaminade NY), Jimmy Jackson, (Boys & Girls NY) and Jim Mitchell, (Bronxville, NY).
