Recap: Records Fall at Jim Mitchell InvitationalPublished by
New Balance Track and Field Center at The Armory, December 19th – The 8th running of the Jim Mitchell Invitational was certainly one to remember as multiple meet records fell before the night’s end. Northpoint HS’s Mike Brannigan, who’s steadily becoming a household name in the track and field world, easily broke the boys 1000m meet record in 2:30.06. The boys of Half Hollow Hills HS claimed a meet record in the 4x200m, coolly winning the race in 1:30.81. “The Armory is a great place to run,” said Kory Fitzgerald, who anchored the team. “The energy from the crowd always makes us really excited to run here.” Talented Union Catholic HS siblings Sydney McLaughlin and Taylor McLaughlin broke meet records in the girls and boys 55m hurdles, respectively. Sydney, the 2014 New Balance Outdoor Nationals runner up in the 100m, looked strong over the last hurdle, crossing the finish line in 7.94. Taylor, who took fifth at last season’s New Balance Outdoor Nationals 400m, battled with Chris Alexander of Christian Brothers HS to cross the finish line in 7.73. Sydney went on to also break the meet record in the girls 300m, finishing strong in a head turning time of 38.52. Kamryn McIntosh of Suffern HS impressed the Armory crowd, cruising across the finish line to break the girls 600m meet record in 1:35.23. "This was my first race of the season. I'm really excited to be on the track again and see my teammates bring it," said the 5x All-American and 4x state champion.
