Morley and Armstrong Capture First Place Titles in36th Annual Foot Locker Cross Country ChampionshipsWest Regional
RACE HIGHLIGHTS: Makena Morley of Bigfork, Mont., and Elijah Armstrong of Pocatello, Idaho, won the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships (FLCCC) West Regional today. In the girls’ race, Morley, a senior and four-time FLCCC national qualifier, captured the West Regional title for the second consecutive year in 17:34. Caroline Pietrzyk, a senior at Malibu High School in Malibu, Calif., finished second in 18:02, and Elizabeth Lacy, a senior at the Menlo School in San Mateo, Calif., placed third in 18:04. Morley’s younger sister, freshman Bryn Morley, continues the family tradition by qualifying for Nationals – finishing sixth in the West Regional in 18:17.
Armstrong, a senior at Pocatello High School, claimed the title in 15:25. Trevor Reinhart of Ross, Calif., placed second in 15:29, and Matthew Maton of Bend, Ore., placed third in 15:37. Armstrong, Reinhart, Maton and Levi Thomet of Kodiak, Alaska (seventh place) are all two-time FLCCC national finalists. Johnathan Dressel of Colbert, Wash. (fourth place), and Connor Mantz of Smithfield, Utah (fifth place), are returning to the National Finals for the third time.
