His convictions could not carry him any longer, a season of regimented training and ornery preparation succumbing to the searing pain of an inopportune injury suffered just days earlier. Saturday's Class 4A state cross country meet in Sheridan was the Kelly Walsh senior's to win. He had put in the time, orchestrating his path toward a Wyoming state title with confidence.
