Lacey Shuman - Up, Up and AwayPublished by
With Two 5-10.00 Jumps This Season, 6 Feet is Just Around the Corner by Cory Puffett In April of 2008, two juniors faced off in the high jump. Saniel Atkinson of Bishop McNamara High School and Shaunte Boney of Largo dueled to a tie at 5’ 10” setting a new Maryland state record in the event. Though Atkinson would win on misses, the two have held that record since. However, on December 18, 2009, Lacey Shuman of Maryvale Prep jumped 5’ 10” for the second time this season, this time at the IAAM #2 league meet, in leading Maryvale to 2nd place in the meet with a school record 88 points scored by the team. Not only did she set a Maryland high school record for indoor with this jump, she did it by herself; the second place jump was 5’ 0”. Unfortunately, because the meet was not state sanctioned, it will not count toward Shuman sharing the state record, but she should have more opportunities with plenty of indoor left ahead of her.
