Austin, a senior from San Marcos, cleared 7 feet and 1/4 inches to claim the championship in the high school division at the 85th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. Faced with adversity twice on a hot and muggy afternoon, the son of 1996 Olympic gold medalist Charles Austin outlasted second-place Victor Glaze of Killeen for his first Texas Relays victory. The first sign of trouble for Austin arose when he missed badly twice at 6-83/4 and had to scramble to make his third and final attempt.
