Lauren Gregory of Fort Collins wins third straight 5A cross country titlePublished by
COLORADO SPRINGS — Three down, one to go for Fort Collins’ Lauren Gregory. The junior won her third consecutive Class 5A cross country championship Saturday at the Norris-Penrose Event Center. She finished in 18 minutes, 15.64 seconds. Wheat Ridge’s Rebekah McDowell, Estes Park’s Emily Plummer and Smoky Hill’s Megan Kaltenbach are the four-time winners. Air Academy’s Katie Rainsberger won her second straight 4A title in running the best time of the day, 17:39.0. Quinn McConnell, a freshman at Peak to Peak, won 3A (18:41.1) and Rachel Rairdon (19:55.8) of Heritage Christian was the best in 2A. In boys competition, Monarch’s Isaac Green (16:03.6) won the 5A title. The Classical Academy’s Tanner Norman (15:50.35) won 4A and Ben Butler (15:50.50) of SkyView Academy led 3A, winning his second title in succession. Team champions for boys: (5A) Mountain Vista, (4A) Durango, (3A) Alamosa, (2A) Lyons. For girls: (5A) Broomfield, (4A) Air Academy, (3A) Salida, (2A) Telluride. Neil H.
