North Central High School distance runner Futsum Zeinasellassie has committed to Northern Arizona University, according to coach Rick Stover.

The 5-8, 134-pound Zeinasellassie was named Gatorade's National Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year in January. He has won three consecutive state cross-country titles and will be going for his fourth 3,200-meter championship this spring.

Zeinasellassie broke a 37-year-old Indiana high school track record in the 3,200 meters on Saturday with a time of 8:47.75 at an invitational meet in Arcadia, Calif. Rudy Chapa of Hammond set a state record by running two miles in 8:51.0 in 1975, which translates to an 8:48.27 in the 3,200.
